Re: [RC] Saga of the Heart Monitor - Maggie & David

My ASB mare also has high pulses over the littlest thing. AND she stays greyhound-lean, too (and I have two greyhounds to compare to!). But she is soooo smooth. Like floating. Rode one of the Arabs last weekend. Lily is a lovely little Arab, but she will shake the eyeballs clean outta yer head! Much prefer riding Secret (ASB).

David's gelding is 1/4 ASB and also gets jazzed up over nothing. Until today he has never shown fear of anything, just likes to be 'on' all the time. Nothing has ever scared him, no big trucks, trains, low-flying jets, fast cars, big dogs until the garbage bags tried to get him today, cleverly lying very still waiting for a horse to come by to be eaten. David says we aren't allowed to ride on garbage day anymore!

Maggie--don't ride with monitor anymore, just scares me
    David--not riding on garbage day
    Secret--look at me, I'm floating!
    Lily--at least I have a brain
    Shadow--MONSTERS!!! RUN!!!!
I did pulses for a ride last weekend that had one or two ASB crosses and one pure ASB and my mare is 1/8 ASB and I know my mare's dam and her full brother (both 1/4 ASB). The one thing they all seem to have in common is that they get a little more "jazzed" than some other breeds might. When I put the heart monitor on the pure ASB, I doubted that the little bit high pulse on her was due to a lack of fitness or pain. She was just so excited. After she calmed down, the pulse dropped like a stone. She finished the 50
in elegant style and looked great, just as jazzed at the final trot out as she was at every other vet check. (I should mention that the rider took about 9 or 10 hours to finish.)
