[RC] From the ride manager, Pyramid Challenge - Ridecamp Guest

Hello Ridecampers - just wanted to pass along some info on footing at the Pyramid Challenge for those of you who plan to do this ride. I spent Mon and Tues at the Kentucky Horse Park finalizing the trail. One of the landowners whose farm we use has put fresh gravel on some roads that are part of the trail. The gravel is being pushed into the roadbed by farm vehicles but I can't guarantee what the surface will be like a month from now. There is an alternative to riding on the roadbed - there are grass shoulders on one or both sides of these roads that are wide enough for riding but may be slower going than the road itself. The terrain lends itself to a fast ride. If you plan on being one of the speed merchants, you might want to consider pads. As a point of reference, my wife has a horse entered and he will probably have pads just to be on the safe side.

By the way, the Horse Park is beautiful this year. As I stood at the start/finish line of the steeplechase track and looked back at the infield area of large trees where we will be camping, I couldn't help but get excited. This year everything involving the ride except the trail itself is going to happen right there in the steeplechase infield. We are looking forward to it and hope to see you there.
