I don't recall anyone saying they couldn't.  I believe the emphasis in the
discussion was on choosing stallions who have consistently produced
endurance babies to increase one's odds.  Breeding is a gamble as it is, and
if you're looking for a 12 on the roll of the dice, it's better to have a
pair of dice that each have three facets being 6's, instead of only one
facet being a 6, like the average in the gene pool.
