Re: [RC] Possible Breeding - SandyDSA

Well said, Kat, and in addition, it costs just about the same to raise a good foal with better genetic prospects as it does to raise one who is a crap shoot.  After 24 years selectively breeding a few foals for ourselves, others, not on a broad scale but as there is a desire or a need, we STILL opt to breed the best we can to the best we can. Many have criticized us for not breeding our SE stallion to more straight mares - and we don't OWN any more straight mares - because he produces much better and lovelier athletes with CMK mares!

Agreed that I don't want to breed anythin gunless I am in love with the cross before we even breed the mare. Each mare that we personally have now has that kind of an effect - hard to choose who to lease, to ride, to breed for ourselves.....but with every improvement on the foals Sal produces, we keep following his lead to get athletes who are unmistakeably Arabian.
