Ray,
Sounds like normal horse stretching to me.  Our horses do it a lot in the 
pasture, especially after they've been laying down sleeping, even the 
babies.
If you notice your horse doing it more often, he's most likely learned when 
you catch him it's time to go to work. So, he stretches to get the "kinks" 
out. Something I find myself having to do more often these days!!
