Thanks to Bob Morris and the hunting season thread for
reminding me of this gem. Thanks to

Montana Grizzly Bear Notice:

In light of the recent number of deaths related to
people's unexpected encounters with Grizzly Bears, the
Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising
hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra
precautions and keep alert for bears while in the
field.

Grizzly Bears typically avoid contact with humans.
Most deadly encounters happen as the result of Grizzly
Bears being suprised by the sudden appearance of
humans. Therefore, we advise that outdoorsmen wear
noisy bells on their clothing so as to alert the bears
of your approach.

We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with
them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a
good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear
activity.

Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between
black bear manure and grizzly bear manure. Black bear
manure is smaller and contains lots of berries and
squirrel fur. Grizzly bear manure has little bells in
it and smells like pepper.
