Swanton Pacific Compared to Tevis

Barbara,
I have to agree with you. Having done
both, I'd pick the SP over Tevis anytime. Not that it's any
easier! But at SP, it's the hills that make it tough, not the
heat, the rocks, the dust, the treacherous trails and the crowds.
In contrast, the SP has fabulous cool
weather, no dust, virtually no rock, safe trails, just the right number of
riders, gorgeous scenery, and (last but not least) great food and
volunteers. (Oh, and ride management's pretty good too!)

This Year
I've tried Tevis 8 times and finished
3. I kept thinking, "I hate this section of trail", over and over.
The only part I really liked was Duncan Canyon, and I think the trail doesn't
go there anymore. So after giving serious consideration to my feelings,
I decided "If I don't like the trail, why enter?" Furthermore, the
chances of finishing are so poor, and I hate to waste the money.
I'd really rather ride the Swanton Pacific trail. I love every inch
of that one, even if we do manage it.

I'm just really
curious as to why the completion percentage was so low this
year; also
the top ten completion times weren't as fast as they have been.
Seems especially odd given the nice weather.
I believe Marci
Cunningham mentioned a new section of trial. Marci, do you
think
that contributed? (By the way, thanks Marci for the post.
Reminded me
why I really detest that ride [but watch--will
probably be there next year:
Sick!].)
