I was trying to teach myself how to show in hand, so I set
up a video camera and taped myself practising with my horse.
Oh boy! How incredibly awful we looked! And the biggest problem
was just exactly what Merryben said: I wasn't running anywhere near
fast enough. I *thought* I was. I was even puffing a bit. But for
my horse it was no more than a kind of slow jog. I made him look like
the most uncoordinated clod, like some old, disinterested plow horse
who could barely get out of his own way.

Making a horse look good in hand is *hard*. And you really do have
to run *really fast*, and try to do it over rough ground without
tripping over your own feet and getting winded. Running fast
enough when you're on the outside of the circle is the hardest.
