I  used to work for a vet.
Had a mare that had a white strip down her face.
She would get sunburned there due to the clover.(Vets Diagnosis)
(you could always tell from the drooliing mouth that the clover was in
bloom)
The clover makes the pink skin hypersensitive to the sun.
Since then I have had another mare and a gelding do the
same thing. The new vet (I had moved since then)
recommended a product called ThouroCare SunScreen
Has Alloe Vera to heal the sunburn, Sunscreen and fly repellent.
Would clear up the patches of scabby skin in 24 hrs. Was very easy to
apply. Was a lotion that you just wiped on the sensitive areas.
