Mixing mares and geldings

Betty bettywashburn@worldnet.att.net
I board at a farm where the sexes are mixed. No major problems
so far; just the usual jockeying for position. However, this
jockeying occurs in a 100 acre pasture which has plenty of
room for the horses to get away from each other, if need be.
All of the horses are out 24/7 together. Ages range from 8yrs
to 20 yrs. So no youngsters. For a while 2 of the horses
were brought in at night and released in the am. There was
usually some slight commotion every am when they rejoined the
herd. Now their owner leaves them with the herd; less
adjustment every day. Hope this helps.
