responsibility is the owner's,not the vets

I can't help but remember the many discussions of how the horse's owners are
the ones responsible for the horse's health...not the vets.

The vets are there to help point out problems but hopfully the owner's know
the horse well enough that 'they' are the ones pointing out inconsistencies
to the vets.

I really think LD should be changed and copy CTR or NATRC guidelines without
all the fussing about judging obstacles, tying to trailers etc. That is why
many people go to LD first and not CTR's...they don't want to be judged on
how shiny their horse's mane is or if they have a hard time mounting from
the ground! But set it up so the horse's physical well-being is judged more
than it is now...min and max times between checks, lower HR criteria, etc.
Maybe rider should be questioned if it is the first ride or not and offered
a mentor.....

May seem a little invasive but perhaps will protect the horse and give an
opportunity for education to someone too shy or unsure to ask for it..

...missing Oakland 50 this weekend because of saddle problems...and it is
gonna be hot!
