Chris Paus and Max tragedy

I just found out that a good email friend, who has helped me
immeasurably with endurance tips lost a horse she had just sold in a
horrible accident. Max was being loaded up by an equine transport
company to go to his new home in Houston. The loader didn't wait for
Max to calm down - this was at 2 a.m. in the morning, blindfolded him,
and tried to back him through a gate, when Max felt the gate hit his
rear he went ballistic. Max suffered a horrific compound fracture.
Chris has documented the incident and here is the site. I warn you now
the photos are grafic.

I'm sure some of you might know Chris. She rides in endurance rides
with her horse Star and has written some wonderful stories that are on
her web site about those rides.

Max was out of her mare Tee and half thoroughbred. He was an
outstanding horse. I had even considered purchasing Max but knew my
limits in horsemanship that he was too much of a horse for me. Max
would have made an incredible endurance athlete.

Please keep Chris and Melissa, Max's new owner in your hearts.

Kris
