I am so glad to hear that you are getting in shape with your horse instead 
of just getting the horse in shape.
I started training for endurance riding this year until my horse injured her 
leg while riding.  Now we are only walking until the vet gives us the green 
light.  I found that on long rides getting off and jogging or walking does a 
lot of good for my horse as well as for myself.
Horse-seems less fatigued coming in, gives her back a break, and she enjoys 
the ride more.
Rider-I GET TO STRETCH MY LEGS, YES!
