Equine Sr

Hi Linda,

I'm not going to address the scabs or beet pulp here, just the
Equine Sr and your horse's apparent behavioral change.

Magnum is 20 this year and I honestly doubt he will ever be old
enough for me to feed him Equine Senior! My marvelous sweet
horse turns into a fire breathing monster on less than 2 pounds
of the stuff a day... starts breaking things like leadropes... and
it happens in less than a week.

I'm sure it's great for horses who need it, but I would cut the
Equine Senior out of your horse's diet TODAY... give the rest
of the bag away to someone who really needs it. And don't go
using any Omalene product that contains Purina's Athlete either.

***Note to Purina reps: You have a terrific product here! Don't
get me wrong. But my horse can't handle it... some horses
just get wired on the stuff. Magnum breaks ropes, and becomes
jumpy and down right dangerous. He's also not allowed to have
any refined rice bran products either like Equine Shine. Same
behavioral changes. However, if he ever gets really old and
decrepid enough to need Equine Senior, I will be the first to
rejoice that your product is there for us!

Back to Linda, I'd guess the beet pulp is fine. Cut the Eq Sr
out first and add fresh corn oil to the beet pulp instead. If
you like, good whole oats are probably OK as well. Good luck
and let us know what you find.

One last note: I'm trying to get weight back on Magnum right
now since a nasty younger gelding was put into his pasture
with him while we were traveling and he didn't get his share of
the hay... so the poor old guy is 100 - 150 pounds down. To
get the weight back on (no easy task on a TB) he is getting
*and eating* 5 flakes of grass and one of alfalfa per day plus
3 pounds of oat / alfalfa pellets, 2 pounds of oats and 1 pound
of barley / corn. I'd also add beet pulp / corn oil, but he's
picking back up well on just getting as much hay as he'll eat
per day. He's also not in endurance training these days, but
he is a lesson + trail horse and gets ridden 3 to 4 days a week
for 1.5 to 2.5 hours per ride. He's out 24x7 pasture with no
grazing available.
