RE: RE: Darolyn's bridle

You have all probably seen the note that Oliga posted as guest to ridecamp.
I asked them some questions (they are sending me a brochure) and I gave the
link with Darolyn's pic.

Here's the response I got back regarding Darolyn's pic:

"What you see in the picture is a normal bit being used with a system called
a chest draw reins. This is something I have seen in Southern Mexico when I
was down there. It is different from the Oliga Bridle and the reason it is
used in hot southern areas is that it uses a bit, but when you come to water
you can release the reins and the bit falls out, but as the reins are
attached to and through the breast plate you still can still hold the horse,
he drinks, you then slap the bit in his mouth and you are off.
Sounds good, but the pull angle is all wrong for most horses and they tend
to fight with the bit a good deal, and in Mexico to combat this they often
will tie a leather strap or use a dog collar around the nose in front of the
bit to keep it from being pushed out by the horse's tongue.
The Oliga design is much easier on the horse and provides much better
control."

I'll read up when I get the brochure and let you all know if I end up buying
one to check out. It looks interesting and a very reasonable price if it
works.
