fighting horses/halters

I agree, but if you feel you *have* to do it, use a breakable leather
halter.  The more dry rotted the better.  Personally, my horses think
they're going to DIE of itching after wearing theirs 10 minutes.

I remember reading somewhere that halters are the 2nd leading cause of
death in horses...probably read it in a turn-out halter ad.  Did know a
man who was gone on vacation and a neighbor noticed his mule had it's
rear foot through the noseband.  It was in pretty bad shape but lived. 
Some kick till they break their jaw.  If you need to make a quick release
halter in a bind, tie a piece of hay rope to the cheek ring and hook the
throat snap to that.  In a bind it should break and let the halter come
off.
