Too Quick on the send....

My e-mail  started coming as 3 attachments, but the attachments only
contained the
index and two messages.  I've switched to receiving each message, but that
means I have to be faithful at cleaning them out or 1000s pile up!  Any
ideas as to the problem would be greatly appreciated.
