My friends finish ahead of me too, actually they top ten and or win on a
regular basis.  They always finish strong.  They dont, however, use up all
of their horse during a race.  They are riding their friend and ride
accordingly.  They ride their horses into their maximum without finishing
them in a deficit.  They ride well and strong during a race yet they dont
ride "hell bent for leather"   def: irresponsibly, uncaringly.
