Alison,
Hopefully it was mostly his pride that was hurt!!
Obviously, in situations like this, you do whatever has to be done!!! I can 
see no reason for penalty here, OW OW, I hurt just thinking about it. I was 
reponding to the person who asked about ponying for the purpose of exposing 
a young horse to a "ride" during an actual competition.
