RE: RE: Cutoff Times
Since the criteria for completion is based on an average speed of 4.1666 mph
then any cutoff times should be based on the same rationale. Thus the
concept of a speed of 5 mph for cutoff at a vet check could be considered as
erroneous. Consider a vet check (hypothetical only for example)at 40 miles
this means you must be there in 8 hours leaving 4 hours for the last ten
miles. This is a rate of 2.5 mph. If a rider wants to do the ride at a rate
of 4mph and arrive at the vet check in ten hours that is the riders
prerogative if they are going to complete. Then they just up the speed to
5mph and complete in the required 12 hours (for a 50)
Using George's reading of the rule 6 the Ride management could have set a
time limit of six hours at the 40 mile point (6.66mph not unreasonable)and
you would then have six hours to complete the last ten miles.
No, there must be some sensible, definitive reasoning if there are to be
cutoff times applied. If not, then we get into the realm of some of the FEI
rides (18 hrs for 100 miles) and lose the concept of our traditional
endurance riding.

Look at rule 6 it allows ride management to set other rules as the ride
requires
6. Completion requires meeting all of the following criteria:
a. All riders and mounts must be present and accounted for at the
start of the ride.
b. Properly entered in the ride.
c. Obeying all the rules.
d. Following the prescribed course, and doing multiple loops in the
correct order.
e. Passing all control points.
f. Passing vet check requirements
g. Finishing within the prescribed maximum tine.
h. Not being disqualified.
i. Meeting criteria at post-finish-line check.
j. Meeting any other criteria prescribed by ride management
