Then tell your farrier to use the flat pads...they work also.  And if you
have to, YOU buy them for your farrier.  Just because he/she doesn't have
them in stock doesn't mean they can't order them!  You can also try
spraying a cooking oil like Pam on the bottom of their feet to prevent the
snow building up too much.  Instead of "picking" out their feet, all you
need to do is take a rasp or wrench or something like that and tap the toe
a couple of times.  It won't hurt them and the whole snow chunk should pop
right out.
