Re: Endurance as a team sport

Having AERC provide a division/awards for team competitions would be a big
step. A committee would have to draft a set of rules to define what makes a
"team": I see lots of room for discussion there! Then there's the problem
of tracking the team statistics: it is my understanding that the AERC's
computer system is not "user friendly" when it comes to modifications (being
a systems analyst myself, I think AERC was really screwed by whoever set up
their computer system... but that's a whole 'nother can of worms!). Next
there's the extra time that the office staff must spend entering the
statistics for the new division into the computer system. And finally
there's the expense of added awards. I think AERC would have to think long
& hard before they could support team endurance as an organized part of the
sport.

However, since there is nothing in the rules to keep ride management from
recognizing "informal" teams I am hoping that more rides will support team
competition in the future. It's a good start.
