FEEDING BEER TO HORSES

All Irish jokes aside (and yes with a maiden name of O'Neil wouldn't ya know
I have enjoyed one or two wee beers in my life!) the reasoning behind using
beer to fatten a horse up is not because beer is fattening. It is commonly
used at the race track for poor eaters. Lots of horses simply won't consume
enough grain to keep their weight up to par and produce enough energy. Very
common amongst fillies. Most horses will develop a strong lust for beer, (it
can be fed flat with the alcohol evaporated) and will eat more concentrates
with gusto if a beer has been poured over it. It also may help you get that
corn oil down your horses throat.
