Re: RC: Re: RIDING WITH WRIST IN A CAST

My mother always wondered why her daughters ended up in ER more than her sons.

The one bone I have EVER broken was from a fall off of a horse (It was summer, I
was 14, riding 3yo horse down middle of paved road, bareback, horse spooked at a
COW?!? and slipped. I fell off and broke the growth plate in my hand trying to
protect my face). My parents were at work, and I was on my way to meet my best
friend at the halfway point between our houses, about 6 miles away. Caught
horse, walked home, cleaned cuts on hands and face with horse's linamint,
wrapped hand/wrist/lower arm with ace bandage, jumped back on horse and hauled
tail to make the meeting on time.

Got back home at about 10pm after a full day of riding, and asked Dad if he
thought I might have broken a finger. Had a cast covering 3 fingers, all of
wrist and up to elbow for 6 weeks, but rode everyday anyway, just didn't tell
Mom.

No way I could do that now. The older I get the more sensitive to
pain/stupidity!

I don't know. My arm was in a cast because I was riding my pony backwards(
facing his tail), and he wouldn't go forward, cause it felt so strange. So
I smacked him on the butt. He went - so did I. Course I had to put my
hands out to keep from landing on my face - guess my wrist just couldn't
take it. Think it was about the 7th time in ER that summer. (I'll tell
you about swinging from the hot water pipe in the basement and resultilng
flood, getting the pony sunk in mud up to his withers, etc. etc. some
other time) My mother was a saint.
