Thanks for the in-depth response. Yes grass hays and alfalfa
are very different in the way they can be cured (dried).

After baling, grass hay's maximum internal temps are much lower
than alfalfa.

At internal bale temps of 100 to 125 deg F you'll end up with
white mold and the hay is junk.
Even in the low 90s deg F there'll be a fine white mold when
the bale is opened later in the winter.
