I don't know how & why these pads work but they do.  It doesn't seem to 
matter what combination of saddle & pad & horse that you use them with, they 
just work.  All three of our horses are ridden with the vent pad and it 
works on all of them.  One horse uses a treeless saddle, the other two use 
orthoflex.  We have been using the vent pad for over a year and have not had 
to wash a saddle pad since we started using the vent pad. I highly recommend 
them.
