    I've said this before but maybe you deleted it. Cummins installed our 
retarder or jake brake on our truck about 1 1/2 years ago.  I have a button 
that will engaged it when hauling the trailer.  Our truck is a 5 speed, 24 
valve Cummis motor, 1998 Dodge Dulley.  They do work great!  Wouldn't haul 
our rig without one.  It really doesn't matter what you call the breaking 
system they both slow the truck down.  We've owned semi's for years and some 
had jakes and some had retarders.  Jakes are louder and retarders sort of 
have a whine to them.
