Horse Abuse

Okay, I need some educating here. Is it within the rules for a vet to pull
a horse at the pre-ride VC if they "think" a rider will abuse the horse? Is
there a process for providing past offenses for the vets to consider?

Can others riders, within the rules, object to abusive behavior by a rider
to his horse, and successfully get that person pulled during that race?

Can a ride manager, within the rules, refuse entry of an abusive rider?

Can a vet, within the rules, pull a perfectly sound horse at a Pre ride VC
for something such as malnutrition, or extreme under conditioning?

Just what are the rules for such things?

Endurance is my chosen sport, and it'd be nice to know what I can do, should
I run across a blatant case of abuse out on the trail, or in ridecamp.

I have rescued many horses over the years, mostly from ignorant people who
had no idea their horses were being neglegted. I love endurance for the
fact that everyone USES thier horses, takes excellent care of them, and are
usually in search of more knowledge. This is really a wonderful sport, and
it breaks my heart to hear these abuse stories. But, lets face it, by and
large, there are very few abuse cases floating around out there. And if
there are, they aren't for long!

I have turned in starved horses if I couldn't persuade the owner to let me
help them get educated, or buy the horse from them myself. I have also
turned in horses that other people told me about, because they didn't want
to get involved. I never have understood the abuse of horses, and the way
people can ignore it. But my astonishment hasn't stopped the abuse, nor
stopped me from trying to do something about it.

This is going to be an interesting thread! I'm almost sorry I'm going to be
riding all weekend!

Happy Trails to all!!!!!
