Bringing back an old horse

Hi all,

I was a Ridecamper when the list first started and have been off for quite
awhile. Getting back on is a bit overwhelming. My purpose for rejoining was
to get sharp again about endurance riding. I have not done a ride since 1997
and not really campaigned since 1994. I had some major health problems
myself and am now feeling very good, and am really appreciative.

I have a mare that was a very good performer in all of the races I have had
her in. I never formally retired her. She is older, 16 now. In the years I
have not been endurance riding she took me 800 miles on a ride I did across
Montana and has done many mountain rides and pack trips. Always sound,
always capable. Korana LHF in case anyone that is out there that remembers.

I almost recently lost her. For some reason, and not foaling as she was
barren, she prolapsed. I faced the putdown decision twice. A very traumatic
time for me. This horse has given me everything and then some.

I had some dreams with her. I kept thinking next year. Next year. If I had
lost her, there would never be a next year.

I would like to know what people's experiences have been in bringing back a
horse. For some reason, we have been given that chance and I want to take it.

Sincerely,

Tish Stoots
