My own experience with a girthy horse is my 20yo gelding.  He just kept
getting worse all the time - pulling back, stilted steps for the first
half dozen or so, etc.  What worked for me was in Beating Muscle
Injuries for Horses by Jack Meagher.   On page 71 is stress point no. 9
- serratus thororacis.  I followed these instructions and honestly, he
has quit fighting the girth. I can now girth him up in cross-ties and
have no fear of him pulling back.
