Re: RC: Dogs at RIDES... small child attacked at OD 100

Boy do stories get out of hand!!!!!

The truth is this:

I was MY dog and the kid was NOT hospitalized. After 8 hours on the road, we arrived at the OD site...(large
grounds) on Wednesday evening just before dark. Less than half a dozen trailers were there...well away from where
we parked. We let out our dogs out for a few minutes to stretch their legs. Me, being tired after such a long
drive and with Roger Rittenhouse coming up to gab, just did not "click" on the fact that his grand kid was riding
around on a small bicycle. Next thing you know, my dogs (I have 2) were doing what they have been bred for
centuries to do...chase something that is moving.

One dog nipped at the heel of the kid and did inflict a small puncture would from the nip. Roger was very
understandably upset and took his kid to the emergency room to have it looked at. He did not share with me the
outcome, but did report it to the dog warden who send someone over the next morning for a report.

The kid ran, played and rode his bicycle the rest of the weekend, not even limping. He did not cry at all, but I
surely think he had quite a fright.

The dog warden was very nice, asked to see the health papers on the dogs (which I ALWAYS carry with me) and when
we related what happened, he said he felt the dogs were just acting normally.

I, too, was upset. Henceforth, the guilty dog WILL have a muzzle on when I take her away from home from now on.
My dogs are almost always tied at rides. I respect that fact that others may not appreciate them and I surely do
not want them wandering where they are not wanted or may get hurt or hurt someone else.

Understand, I travel alone much of the time and have decided NOT to carry a handgun. my dogs are not only a
deterrent by my friends. I also CANNOT leave them at home. So, I WILL manage the situation in the future or get
rid of the culprit.

My apologies again to Roger.

Thanks for letting me air this.
