RC: Re: Stallion behavior

Spray bitter apple, chew stop, no chew etc....on the ropes , whips, reins
etc. Get a piece of cork and stick a long skinny nail thru it. Hold the
cork in your hand with the nail sticking out between your fingers. As he
reaches to grab whatever is in your hands, poke him with the nail. Dont
make a fuss. Act as tho nothing happened. Carry the cork w/nail every time
you do anything with him. Dont reach to poke him. Let him poke himself by
reaching for you or whatever you are holding . NEVER give him treats by
hand. Give him his treats out of a bucket or pan. After he is completely
broke from grabbing things, then the occasional hand held treat would be ok.
I have handled stallions and/or jacks most of my life and the hidden nail
thing works great. Spray your ropes etc. with yucky stuff so he wont chew
on them after you walk away from him. Good luck. gesa n clovis
