I don't know Maggie, some riders just need
to be "whipped" that is the only way
to get through to them. For example; my
daughters, ages 13 and 9 yr. old twins,
were with me on a ride. The twins were on
well broke arab geldings and my older
daughter was on a green arab cross that I
had been riding all summer. This green
arab cross was only 13.1 hh and I wanted
to get him use to being ridden by kids.
I had put lots and lots of miles on him
and did some competing with him. His name
is Cloud Dancer and he was doing very
good. Kacie, my 13 yr. old daughter, had
been riding him around the farm, but this
was her first trail ride on him, even
though
I had done several rides on him. There is
a guy in our trail club who loves to run
and though it would be fun to run up on
Kacie and Cloud Dancer and go full blast
by them.
His daughter was riding with my girls and
she took off with him as he flu by. Well
Cloud Dancer had never had some one run up
on him before, so he bolted and started
bucking. My daughter is a very good rider
and managed not to get thrown, but it
scared her. Well, this guy thought that
was sooooo much fun, that he dropped
backed and did it again. This time when
the daughter took off, my twin's horses
took off too and one of them could not get
their horse stopped. Plus Cloud Dancer
started bucking on Kacie again. I was not
with the girls, but I was at the next stop
and Kacie refused to ride again. And the
twin was in tears. When I tried to "talk"
to the guy, he told me that if my girls
can't handle their horses then they should
not be riding!! I think a "whipping" is
the only language that this guy would
understand!!!!!
