Re: Re: ponies in endurance.

Hi

I compete in the Uk on a Welsh Cob ( think giant welsh mountain pony and
youll get a good image of him). When I had the time to get him fit enough
two years ago he coped happily with 40 and 50 milers and won a speed trophy
for the fastest time at one ride beating amongst others an Arab that went on
to come third in the UK Arab Marathon race.

He burns up really quickly if Im daft enough to let him gallop for long and
he can gallop fast , kept up with a US bred TB on my last ride for about 6
miles till I managed with my crews help to hold him back till this horse
dissapeared from sight .But mine trots between 14 - 16 mph and can keep this
up for ages.

I know of one girl on the national junior team who competes soley on
Connemaras and a lot of the juniors do well on ponies.

Still, at the end of the day Id prefer to use a horse or pony I liked as a
personality and if that means competing at a lower level so be it.

Tamara
