Re: To Look or Not?

This post points to know your horse and  why the terror.  I usually just focus and get the horses to focus past the offending object, but a few years ago there was an incident that I, rightly as it turned out, handled differently.

My step daughter who, was a very green rider, came home in tears,  Her 21 year dead broke QH mare had spooked and dumped her on the road to a friend's house.  I caught the mare and rode out to the area to see what the problem was.  The farmer had been bailing and the field was full of very large round bales, that terrified Pax.  I spent an hour getting her up to one of them.  When she got right next to it, trembling in fear, she suddenly realized it was hay, took a big bite, and relaxed.  This was a permanent fix on big round bales.  In this case she just needed to know they were food, and thus OK.
