Bathe her often and use a gentle cream rinse.  Jane
Hickey, owner of Greenway Saddlery in Phoenix, gave
our Pony Club kids a barn management seminar and her
horses all had these beautiful flowing manes and
tails.  Her secret is to bathe the manes and tails
every Sunday and to use a cream rinse and to brush
them out gently.  I suspect your mare has dry skin and
needs to be kept clean and moisturized.
