O.K. I've been very short on time and avoiding posting, but since Duncan
only realized the idea of a 13 year old frothing at the mouth was a joke
because *my* name was on it >g< I'm going to get serious.

I've read recently of more than one Spelunker contacting rabies when they
had absolutely no contact with a live bat.  The fear was that the bat
feces (I know there's a technical word g...) on the floor of the cave had
infected them.  As if I needed any encouragement to stay out of a cave.

Or how's this, I remember someone saying they almost shot their dog
because he was acting crazy and frothing, and then the dog suddenly
dropped a toad he'd been carrying.

Or this:  I had a barn kitten and one morning I went out and it was in a
crouched position, eyes open, and dead.  It looked like a stuffed cat.  I
called the health department and asked if there was a chance it had
rabies or something.  I was a teenager, didn't tell my parents, was just
freaked out by its appearance.  They said there hadn't been a case of
rabies in Hamilton County for many many years.  A couple of years ago
there was one, but the cat had come up from Florida.  By the way, at our
new house, found another barn cat curled up peacefully asleep, dead.  Do
you think those could have been snakebites?
