Hi Frank,
I don't know of anyone using fat as a primary energy source either & I don't
believe that the proponents of high-fat ever put it forward as such.
I've recently started using Buckeye Equine Energy which is 30% fat but only
as a proportion of the diet.
Not enough time to really evaluate it but the horse I am using it on
completed Barcelona 200kms in Dec with loads of energy to spare & with good
CRI's. OK we didn't go mega fast but thats his rider holding him back!
Buckeye EE has added Vit E but I wonder should I be adding selenium as
well??
When I used oil I used it at every feeding but couldn't get them to eat more
than 500-600ml per day. Was using corn oil & sometimes sunflower oil.
We did some trials in France about 7 years ago with a high-fat feed which
was a complete feed but my horses didn't like it & it was very difficult to
get them to eat it. I don't think the feed ever came on the market.
I realise I'm trailing behind with this topic but being off-line for 10 days
sort of sets you back in the discussion stakes.
