Re: RC: rain gear suggestions Long!

I live near Sue and we ride in some of the same places and I usually
manage to stay dry. I have a long coated nylon duster that I don't wear
much. It doesn't stay over my legs very well. I once had one of those
oil skin duster but it was awful. Wore it on pack trips in the Cascades
and when it got wet it was very heavy and never tried out. Not very
pleasant to put it back on the next day! The final straw with the oil
skin was when it froze overnight and it was impossible to wear and
impossible to roll up. Never again! My husband has a slicker from Have
Saddle, Will Travel and he likes it very much. It has stood the test of
Washington's Cascades and of rainy western Washington and is made of
some hi tech fabric that really works. Pricey. All of Don West's gear
is good stuff and they have a web site. I may get one of these slickers
too. Right now I wear A Goretex jacket and gaiters over fleece and stay
dry. If it's really raining hard I add rainpants. You can save a
little money on the rainpants because they really don't need to be
Goretex. Remember there is rain and RAIN. We are wet weather experts
here in western Washington.
